<p>Particles from thermal cut machining are very fine and require high attention to be filtered properly, because they could be very dangerous if inhaled.</p>

<p>But what are the main thermal cut processes?</p>

<p>The technologies that use this type of cutting are oxyfuel (which generates very hot and dusty fumes), plasma (from which a smoke with very fine particles arises), and laser (which produces dust with a particle size scale of a few microns).</p>

<p>Why are such particles dangerous to humans?</p>

<p>They are very dangerous because of their very small size, because if inhaled they could penetrate deep into the lungs, in some cases even reaching the pulmonary alveoli and then entering directly into the bloodstream.</p>

<p>How to avoid the dangers from the particles produced by thermal cutting?</p>

<p>By the use of filter cartridges created specifically for this purpose, such as those we design and manufacture at Altair.</p>

<p>Our products in this range are characterized by low pressure drop, high filtration efficiency (we are in the order of 99.9% with polluting particles between 0.2 to 2 microns), 100% interchangeability due to the wide range of products available, and the possibility of being replaced very easily and quickly.</p>

<p><strong>How do our filter sleeves work?</strong></p>

<p>It is a seemingly simple process, but one that requires <strong>excellent materials</strong> (all BIA-certified) and manufacturing that must <strong>ensure millimeter accuracy</strong>, with a wide range of finishes to complement it.</p>

<p>Our filter bags, placed inside cages, are <strong>mounted on Venturi tubes</strong> to function, which follow the physical principle of the same name whereby the pressure of a fluid current increases as its velocity decreases.</p>

<p><strong>&#8220;Dirty&#8221; air</strong>, then, passes through these filters driven by increasing pressure, and is <strong>returned to the environment free of all its impurities</strong>, potentially harmful to those who work 8 or more hours a day in that environment.</p>

<p><strong>What technologies do we use?</strong></p>

<p>To ensure an excellent result for every single filter sleeve that comes out of our production lines, we use all the latest technologies: from automatic blade cutting, thanks to <strong>CAD/CAM</strong> software, to the <strong>automation of <em>tubing lines</em></strong> that allow us to cut and tubularize felts and fabrics by means of heat sealing.</p>

<p>This ensures that we have the millimeter accuracy we were talking about. <strong>Packaging</strong> also has to follow a strict procedure: it is <strong>done automatically</strong>, thanks to manipulators that fold the filter sleeves and pack them continuously.</p>

<p>Before packaging, <strong>a QR code is affixed</strong> to each of our filter sleeves, which will be used for its identification via our Altair Filter Code app.</p>

<p>In the more <strong>than 16 thousand square meters of our plant in Leinì</strong>, very close to <strong>Turin</strong> and its <strong>Caselle airport</strong> , we have dedicated a lot of space to production lines and the proper storage of filter cartridges and filter bags, to support our logistics and consequently ensure quick deliveries for all our customers.</p>

<p>In addition to all this, we have also set up <strong>an in-house laboratory for filter material analysis and testing</strong> equipped with technological instruments such as a permeability meter, an electron microscope and a high-precision electronic scale.</p>

<p>One of the <strong>analyses</strong> we conduct is <strong>that of spent filter fabrics,</strong> to understand how the fabric worked throughout the filtering process.</p>

<p>Our technicians also do <strong>permeability</strong> tests, <strong>electrical conductivity tests</strong>, high <strong>temperature resistance tests</strong>, as well as tests using <strong>fluorescent powders</strong>.</p>

<p>Tests carried out frequently and always with the same care, to keep improving all our products: innovation is one of our values that we pursue by working every day. It is necessary to continually update ourselves to keep up with rapidly evolving production sectors.</p>

<p><strong>Smoke</strong> and <strong>oil mists</strong> <strong>are very dangerous particles for humans</strong>, and it is necessary to control their emissions very carefully.</p>

<p><strong>What, then, are smoke and oil mists?</strong></p>

<p>As we mentioned earlier, they are two products of the use of oil, either alone or in emulsion, when it is brought to very high temperatures or high pressures.</p>

<p>Going into more detail, <strong>smoke</strong> is generated by high-speed machining centers, melting furnaces, hot stamping, metal processing, as well as during the production process of plastics and rubber.<strong>. Its diameter is about 0.5 microns per particle.</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Oil (or oily) mist</strong>, on the other hand, is the product of using an emulsion of water and oil, and differs from smoke mainly in the size of its particles, <strong>which range between 1 and 8 microns.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Why are smoke and oil mists dangerous to humans?</strong></p>

<p>Precisely because of the minute size of their particles, which makes them easily inhaled and <strong>therefore potentially very dangerous because they are toxic.</strong></p>

<p><strong>How to avoid the dangers associated with smoke and oil mists?</strong></p>

<p><strong>With ad hoc filter cartridges</strong>, just like the ones we design and manufacture at Altair. Our filter cartridges ensure low pressure drop, high storage capacity and, above all, <strong>excellent filtering efficiency: they filter 99.9%</strong> of pollutant particles with a <strong>diameter between 1 and 6 microns and 99% of particles</strong> with a <strong>diameter of 0.5 microns or more.</strong></p>

<p>Moreover, thanks to the interchangeable prefilter, maintenance time and costs are reduced. An extensive range of diameters and heights makes our filter cartridges the product needed for so many different industries, from lathes and food companies to steel and textiles.</p>
